Do It To Me According To Your Word

Luke 1:26-38 gives the account of the Angel of the Lord visiting a young virgin named Mary. She was seen as a very special woman. She lived a life of purity and reverence before God. As a result, she was highly favoured. God had a plan for her life, so through the Angel Gabriel, He expressed this plan to her. Even though Mary did not fully understand all the details of the plan and why she was chosen for this, or how it would have been possible given her obvious limitations, Mary’s submission to God’s Word was exemplary: “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word…” (Luke 1:38).

God has a plan for each of us. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” In order for the plans of God to be realised in our lives, we must humbly submit to Him — Do it to me according to Your Word!

Like Mary, we may not fully understand everything God is doing. We may not know the details of how things would work out. There may be obvious limitations existing in our lives. But in spite of all this, it is incumbent on us to come to Almighty God, in humble submission, saying — Do it to me according to Your Word!
